Eight Projects Featuring Vitro Architectural Glass Earn 2024 AIA Award Honors
Vitro Architectural Glass announced that its energy-efficient, low-embodied carbon glass is featured in eight award-winning projects recognized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The AIA Awards honor projects that establish new standards of excellence and celebrate impactful, exemplary work in architecture and design.
“We take pride in manufacturing high-performing products that improve the spaces where we learn, work and gather,” said Vitro Architectural Glass Vice President of Marketing Fernando Diez. “We also take pride in providing cutting-edge digital tools and software to support architects and designers throughout their processes, connecting them with the best glass to increase daylighting, transparency, thermal performance and occupant comfort wherever needed.”
Below is a list of the award-winning projects that feature Vitro Glass.
Rockwell Integrated Sciences Center
Earning AIA Interior Architecture accolades, Lafayette College’s Rockwell Integrated Sciences Center (Easton, PA), which is LEED® Platinum certified, features a vibrant four-story gathering space at its core and utilizes its cascading exterior landscape to connect with the broader campus community. The building features Solarban® 72 Starphire® glass, which optimizes daylighting and views while limiting solar heat gain. Vitro Certified® Fabricator JE Berkowitz was a project partner.
Marion Fire Station No. 1
The Marion Fire Station in Marion, Iowa, was honored with the Architecture Award, highlighting the best buildings and spaces. It is a futuristic facility designed using biophilic principles to ensure firefighters can be mentally and physically at their best. Views and occupant comfort were valued for this project, and the ideal match was Solarban® 60 Starphire® glass, a low-e and low-iron combination that maximizes transparency and performance. Project credits include glass fabricator: Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (Warrenton, Missouri), and glazing contractor: Mid-American Glazing Systems.
SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park
Also honored with the Architecture Award, SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park are Inglewood, California's premier sports and entertainment destination. SoFi Stadium is home to two NFL franchises, the Rams and Chargers, and was the host of Super Bowl LVI. Thanks to doors, railings, and partitions inside the stadium made of Starphire Ultra-Clear® low-iron glass, attendees enjoy brilliantly clear views of the field from virtually everywhere. Project credits include glass fabricator: Glasswerks Los Angeles, and glazing contractor: Harris Glass Company.
Bard High School Early College
This unique learning facility in Washington, D.C., received an Education Facility Design Award for its innovative net zero energy and adaptive reuse strategies. Targeting LEED® Platinum certification, Bard High School Early College dons Solarban® 70 glass by Vitro, the most proven, commonly specified triple-silver-coated low-e glass in the industry. Solarban® 70 glass keeps out 73% of the solar heat gain while letting 64% of visible light through. Project credits include glass fabricator: Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (Wright City, Missouri), and glazing contractor: Innovo Construction, LLC.
The University of California, Davis Medical Center, California Tower
The California Tower at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento received a Healthcare Design Award for its creative use of local geography and artists to enhance its welcoming atmosphere. Featuring exceptional clarity and superior solar control performance, Solarban® 72 Starphire® glass provides ample daylighting and warm views. Project credits include glass fabricator: Glassfab Tempering Services, Inc., and glazing contractor: Enclos.
San Antonio Botanical Garden
The San Antonio Botanical Garden recognized the need to adapt to the rapidly growing city around it and evolve into a world-class facility that optimizes clear views and energy savings. The Architecture Award winner features Solarban® 60 glass by Vitro, which delivers year-round comfort and significant heating and cooling cost savings. Project credits include glazing contractor: Thad Ziegler Glass.
The Holdsworth Center
Also a recipient of the Architecture Award, The Holdsworth Center in Austin, Texas, is a 44-acre campus that supports building the skills of Texas educators. Honored for its innovative architecture and commitment to educational leadership, The Holdsworth Center boasts both Solarban® 70 glass and Solarban® 72 Starphire® glass, which offer clear views, daylighting and superior solar control performance. Project credits include glass fabricator: Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope (Houston, Texas).
Chico State University Natural Sciences Building
Chico State University's Natural Sciences Building, honored with an Education Facility Design Award, promotes student engagement through its adaptive design and seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces.
