AIA Detroit and Albert Kahn Associates to Offer Up to $4,500 in Scholarships
AIA Detroit is partnering with Albert Kahn Associates to offer two scholarships for the 2025 academic year. The scholarships are open to architecture students who are enrolled at a NAAB-accredited institution within the AIA Detroit chapter boundary or who have a permanent residence within Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, or Wayne counties. The scholarships are specifically targeted towards supporting students from underrepresented groups in the architecture profession, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women.
The first scholarship is valued at $1,500, while the second is valued at $3,000. In order to be eligible for the scholarships, students must be enrolled as a Junior, Senior, or graduate candidate with at least one year left to complete their architectural degree. Additionally, students must be able to demonstrate their commitment to the field of architecture, as well as their involvement in activities related to the built environment.
Applications for the AIA Detroit scholarships are due by January 31, 2025. In order to apply, students must complete the biographical data section of the application form, as well as submit an official transcript and a letter of reference. Students are also required to write a 200-500 word essay explaining why they want to be an architect and why they should be selected for the scholarship. The winners will be selected by the 2025 Scholarship Jury and will be announced on the AIA Detroit Chapter website.
AIA Detroit is committed to supporting the next generation of licensed architects and recognizes that a more diverse profession starts with a more diverse student body. By offering these scholarships, AIA Detroit hopes to remove some of the financial barriers that can prevent students from pursuing a career in architecture. The organization is also working to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for students from all backgrounds.
In addition to the financial support, the AIA Detroit scholarships also provide students with the opportunity to connect with the local architecture community. The scholarships are sponsored by Albert Kahn Associates, a 313Circle Partner of AIA Detroit. The firm is one of the oldest and most respected architecture and engineering firms in the Detroit area, with a strong commitment to supporting the development of the next generation of architects.
